What were the hottest new technologies at CES 2017? In order to share these amazing 2 days, here is a summary of the innovations that impressed me the most and trends of the moment.
Let’s start with an anthology of the new technologies that have excited me:
3D holograms, fingerprint padlock, ironing cupboard, rolling keypad, intelligent parasol, 3D printed violin, induction table, luggage that follows you, wireless charger, window cleaner robot, 360 and 4K camera, 5G, Quick Charge 5 min for 5h of battery, Virtual Reality Helmet with 5 senses and wireless, Reality very increased, connected foosball, cappuccino-serving robot, salad that grows in your kitchen, Mirror or table TV screen, intelligent and clairvoyant refrigerator, robots of all kinds, automatic detection of individuals and movements, voice control of all objects, first steps of interactions by the brain, induction phone chargers, 3D metal printer, bed that adapts its shape to your sleep … We no longer stop innovation and in all areas.
In my opinion, several major trends have emerged:
1) Artificial intelligence will be everywhere in our personal and professional lives
- Alarm clock that decides when you have regenerated enough and that adjusts your schedule.
- Bed that detects your presence and adapts its shape to your position or snoring.
- Fridge which anticipates the expiration of food and proposes recipes
- Parasol that adapts to the position of the sun
2) Goodbye the phone, hello the voice!
I thought for a while that the phone would be the central interface to drive all of its environment. It had to be the remote control of the future, it is replaced by the VOICE.
And the big winner everyone was talking about did not even have a booth but was present everywhere: Amazon Eco, with his vocal assistant Alexa.
Few companies had not built an application around Alexa. The voice recognition is now almost total.
With Alexa, the voice now allows to:
- Control all types of media
- Manage all objects with the concept of date and time
- Make to do and shopping lists
- Track news and weather
- Search Google
- Make mathematical calculations
Finally, the who / what / where / how … is available to your voice.
If I may give your an advice: do not call your daughter Alexa in 2017, this could create funny scenes!
3) Anything that is not connected becomes has been
Connected sole, connected T-shirt, connected house, connected car, connected pen… Imagination seems to be the only limit to what can be connected, to make man an enhanced man.
This generates a profusion of new data available.
This generates many questions regarding ownership of data …
4) Robots will change every moment of our lives
Automation of the world is fast approaching. After hours of walking in the fair alleys, I dreamed of a cappuccino. And there, appears before me, a robotic arm serving me the best cafes !
I turn around, and I see a robot clean window glass that comes to challenge the robot vacuum cleaner.
Robotics is no longer in the state of gadget and super toy. It will revolutionize all industries, without exception. These robots look more and more like men and learn at high speed. The robotics applications concerning the services to the person are numerous: robot pill, robot massage, conversational robot, robot safety, robot child or kid…
5) Transport Revolution
I did not spent so much time in the booths dedicated to Transport. One thing is for sure though, transport is experiencing a real revolution:
Disappearance of the driver, Car that recognizes you, learning of the needs of the passengers, anticipation of accidents and improvement of safety, Automation of actions, voice control of all kinds, takeoff platform for drone … that is what the car of the future will look like.
All in all, the most exciting news from CES 2017 might be this:
These new, mind-blowing technologies are here and about to explode into the public space. Their success will depend on the people, the users, and measure with which they connect to the products. Flawless User Experince will be their make-or-break. I take that as a personal challenge, may the UX revolution begin.
